Today my cohort met at Zachary’s Pizza to discuss the trip
and to get to know each other a little better…you know, before we’re flown
across the country to spend a month running around touring colleges and studying
for the classes we’ll be taking together. No big deal.
It was nice to finally meet the
rest of the cohort as we went around the table and introduced ourselves. Mr. Hillyer told us about the trip,
what to expect, where we’ll be going, things we might go see, and, of course,
much, much more. It was certainly informative, but it was also surprisingly
fun, and it gave me a new, pleasant insight into what I expect the program to
be for me.
Oh, and don't let me forget to mention that Zachary's Pizza has pretty much the best deep-dish pizza that I know of. (Special thanks to John Hillyer for choosing Zachary's, out of anywhere, for this dinner, because it was delicious.)
After we were all full of cheese and tomato and were waiting for our rides, we decided to open up the table we were using and went to the bookstore next door and had several nice conversations about books until we went home.
Fortunately, by the end of the night, everyone left an
excellent first impression, and having met these wonderful people allows me to add one more thing to the list of
many reasons that I truly look forward to this experience.
I think you’re going to enjoy your time on this trip, Julia. Good people, a great chaperone and some pretty cool things to see. Sounds pretty good to me.
