Breezy But Nice Philly! |
Today was a nice, cool day literally! After waking up feeling rested, we decided to eat breakfast/lunch at Distritos which we luckily went to after the rain. Philly experienced some showers after the thunderstorm in the night and helped make the weather cool and windy. It reminded me so much of California and John says that its usually like this in the spring and fall which seems strange to me! John also mentioned that Joe Biden visited Philadelphia in the morning and was getting drenched along with the mayor as he made a speech. Going back to what I said before, we were at Distritos where I had a new thing called a virgin margarita! Before anyone gasps, it's just a margarita without the alcohol! It tasted pretty good with the watermelon flavor, but also with the salt on the side which created a new fused taste for me of sweet but saltiness. As we ate, we watched the hot dog eating contest on Coney Island which kind of made me lose my appetite when Joey Chestnut ate 61 hot dogs today and beat the competition. Why do people do crazy things like this instead of enjoying the food? Beats me!
Where We Would Be on Moving Day on Sunday |
After eating lunch, we walked around and sort of made up our tour of UPenn. John showed us the dorms that we would be living in for the next 3 weeks which seemed pretty cool as it looked like we would be royalty living in a gigantic castle yet with modern amenities. He also showed us some chemistry labs with a statue of the famous chemist John Harrison and the lovely red looking UPenn library. We also partially did the Locust Walk as there was construction being done in the middle of the walk. There's always construction being done in big cities like Philly and New York!
The Concert From Afar |
Following the informal UPenn tour, we went back to the hotel and rested. Later, we started walking to the Philly 4th of July Jam free concert where they had Roots, Ed Sheerhan, Nicki Minaj, and Jennifer Hudson along with the host Marlon Waynes. Though Ariana Grande was scheduled to be there, she unfortunately did not perform today which was a bummer! It was very crowded and there was an incident where people near us started running away as if they were in World War Z with zombies chasing after them for no apparent reason! But it was still pretty cool to see pop stars like these live and up close in real life! Concluding the day was a massive display of fireworks which always brings out a sense of awe in me as the loud thundering booms from the exploding fireworks seem to shake the heavens!
Happy 4th of July, America! |
In conclusion, today was a relaxing but still eventful day. We were able to see some of the things we would have seen in the UPenn tour which was nice to know before we started class. The concert and fireworks added a nice touch in concluding our day. I wonder what we have in store tomorrow!
